So I was having a bit of a lie-in this morning, not quite awake and not quite asleep, when I heard a strange creaking. That I ignored. (sleepy) But then I heard my dog's claws scrabbling around, definitely not in his room. (Yes, my dog has his own room. With a baby bed*. Wanna make something of it?) So I thought he'd figured out how to go over the baby gate. Which would be a problem. But no. As I sprang out of bed to investigate (and keep in mind, I sleep in the buff for roughly 8 months of the year!) I saw my mother in the hallway! Fortunately with her back to me, following Tomo toward the door! Argh!
She and my father had called and emailed (asleep, phone off, computer off, zz-zz-zz) to tell me they were coming down to fix the front steps, the bottom one of which had rotted, and take a look at the crack in my shower surround that had just appeared. You see, it's their fault I bought this crap place, it's technically their name on the title, so it's their problem. I hate this place with a passion, did even before I agreed to buy it, and only bought it because it was the best thing for everybody else.
But this was the last straw. I don't like people letting themselves into my house and prowling around and messing with my dog when I'm asleep. I don't like having to drive three or four or five hours a day to get to and from my job. I don't like living in a crap hole, so dark and dingy and nasty that it's driving me to sleep for 12 hours a day and sulk for the other 12. I don't like constantly having to account for my comings and goings to my parents-cum-neighbors. Basically, at this point, I don't like my life.
So if I'm not writing this from a bright and airy little cottage 120 miles down the interstate by October, someone please kill me!
* Baby bed - I really think this is an excellent idea for any big dog owner, especially, but not limited to when they're puppies. The mattress is waterproof. The frame is non-toxic. They're up off the floor to keep messes away from the bedding. The bedding is easily changeable. When the little puppy grows into a big dog, it's still a good size for them to stretch out on. Much better than, oh, say, your couch. The only thing is you should let it air for a few days, because that flame-retardant stuff will stink badly to their sensitive noses at first. Also, give the sheets several washes for the same reason.
